Out of the box, WordPress is surprisingly bad at equipping posts and pages with sufficient metadata. But, of course, there are appropriate plugins to address this. While many large SEO plugins include similar functionality, today we’re taking a look at a small plugin that focuses solely on this aspect: Open Graph.

The Open Graph protocol is a well-established convention for marking up metadata on websites. This plugin takes care of setting most of this metadata quietly in the background. As a result, it comes with only a minimal set of settings. In fact, it only adds a few fields to user profiles.

This last point is particularly exciting for me: the Fediverse account name field. If specified here, the plugin adds the meta tag for fediverse:creator. Fediverse apps that support this will display every shared article from my website that I wrote and link directly to my Fediverse account.
