WordPress and various plugins schedule certain events for the future. Be it the check for new updates, the execution of a backup, or the website status check. The WP Crontrol plugin by John Blackbourn lets us look behind the scenes.

After installation, an additional submenu item appears under Tools / Scheduled Actions. The plugin now displays all upcoming events here. A small WordPress logo in the list indicates whether an event was scheduled by WordPress itself or – if it is listed without a logo – comes from a plugin.

However, events can not only be viewed in this list; when hovering over individual entries, we can run them immediately or pause their execution. Both can be particularly exciting for developers. For this reason, and because of the outstanding quality of WP Crontrol, it has been a standard feature for many developers for years.
